A varied and exciting safari in East Africa. A stay at our tropical beach house on the Indian Ocean is combined with a ten-day motorcycle safari around the snow-capped Kilimanjaro in Tanzania.

The first riding day is a test ride through the always-green Shimba Hills, where the weekly village market is an experience in itself. The next day we cross into Tanzania and ride through the green Usambara Mountains — the “vegetable garden” of Tanzania — before the hot savannah and the huge sisal plantations take over.

Around Kilimanjaro the landscape changes constantly: banana plantations on the east side, grain fields to the north and dry savannah where Maasai herders keep their cattle. The way back brings us through Tsavo in Kenya, with an optional game safari in Amboseli. Savannah, mountains, plantations, volcanoes, villages, animals and especially the friendly people.

Highlights

  • Kilimanjaro from the Kenyan and Tanzanian sides
  • The Usambara Mountains
  • Optional safari in Amboseli National Park
  • Old town of Mombasa
  • 600 km of beautiful dirt road
  • A tropical beach finish

Day by day

Day 0 · Departure from Europe

Departure from Europe. We help you plan flights to Mombasa (MBA).

Day 1 · Arrival in Mombasa → Msambweni

A MotorSafaris driver picks you up at Mombasa airport and takes you to SawaSawa Beach House in Msambweni, about two hours away. Relax with a snack and a drink on the beach or by the pool.

Day 2 · Msambweni → Korogwe · 290 km

Breakfast at sunrise, then away at 6 a.m. After 55 km we reach the Kenya–Tanzania border, where the paperwork takes at least two hours — there is always something to see. After 35 km of Tanzanian asphalt we turn into the bush for a long, beautiful ride on good gravel roads past villages. Overnight in an executive lodge.

Day 3 · Korogwe → Kilimanjaro · 280 km

After 70 km of asphalt we take 100 km of beautiful dirt road behind the mountains, lunch in a local restaurant in Same, then another 100 km of hot asphalt. We spend the night in the coolness of Moshi, a town at the foot of Kilimanjaro, with good shops, restaurants and perfect coffee.

Day 4 · Kilimanjaro → Amboseli · 210 km

Around Kilimanjaro with the 5,895 m peak always to our right. Another 100 km of asphalt, then off-road through dry savannah where Maasai graze the last grass. The landscape turns into grain fields, we climb into pine forests at 2,100 m and cross back into Kenya at Tarakea.

Day 5 · Amboseli · safari day

Reserved for an optional visit to Amboseli National Park. Up early, because the mountain and the wildlife are at their best in the morning: elephants, zebras, giraffes and lions against the snow-capped Kilimanjaro. Entry, transport and lunch about €120.

Day 6 · Amboseli → Sagala · 220 km

On brand-new asphalt through Tsavo to the sisal plantations of Mwatate in the Taita Hills, then back into the bush to Sagala Lodge for the night: friendly, a swimming pool and good rooms.

Day 7 · Sagala → Mombasa · 160 km

40 km on the Nairobi–Mombasa highway, then 85 km of real African dirt road: red soil, blue sky, cattle and a burning sun. In Mombasa we stay in a quiet hotel with air conditioning near the old town.

Day 8 · Mombasa → airport

After breakfast there is a guided city walk through the old town, then a transfer to Mombasa airport depending on your flight.

Day 9 · Arrival in Europe

You can extend your holiday on the tropical beach of Mombasa: relax, read a book, dive, kitesurf, get a massage or walk on the beach.

Good to know

How difficult is the tour?

Category 2. The dirt roads are fine for most riders, but the first three days are long and fill the whole day. The last days are shorter, and the support car can take you and your bike if you want a break.

Do I need my own motorcycle?

No. We arrange prepared motorcycles. Tell us your experience and we will match you to the right bike.

Can non-riders join?

Yes. There are two seats in the support car, so a partner or friend can come along for the whole route.

What licence do I need?

A valid motorcycle licence and an international driving permit. We confirm the current rules for your nationality before you book.

How much does the tour cost?

The price depends on dates, group size and motorcycle. Ask for a quote and we will send a full proposal.
